TWO new temporary tips opened in Warrington this morning.

But to many residents’ dismay, the skips were late to arrive at the drop-off point at Victoria Park.

The new Latchford facility was scheduled to open at 10am and many people were left waiting in their vehicles, which were packed with bin bags, in the car park.

Due to the delay, contractors at the site decided to allow people to leave their rubbish on the floor.

The skips have now arrived at Victoria Park.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was a small delay situating the skip at Victoria Park this morning.

“However, contractors on site allowed residents to leave their household waste on the floor for a short period, which has now been cleared up.

"We ask residents not to do this unless instructed by the contractors on site.”

The two new temporary tips, which are just for household waste, were announced just yesterday, Monday, amid the ongoing bin strikes which are set to last until at least Christmas Eve.

They are located at Victoria Park in Latchford and on Alder Lane in Orford (at the car park near the community centre).

They will be open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.

A spokesperson added: “The household waste drop-off points have been very popular so far today.

“We are working hard to accommodate as much waste being dropped off at these points as possible.

“We are securing more skips and a wagon which can compact waste.”
