AN army of volunteers will be bringing some festive cheer to the lonely across Warrington this Christmas – and are calling on the town to come together to become a ‘good neighbour’ too.
The kind hearts are members of a wider Good Neighbours initiative, which runs all year round to support people who are feeling lonely or socially isolated. They offer weekly visits, maybe going to their home for a cup of tea, a short walk or going along to a local community group together.
Warrington Voluntary Action's Operations Lead, Jordan Johnson, revealed: “Our Good Neighbours team is reaching out to gather small gifts for the people we support. The gifts will be delivered by volunteers providing connection and a little bit of Christmas cheer during the festive season.
“Contributions can help make a significant impact on the lives of these individuals, by reminding them they are not alone, and their community cares for them. We have enough volunteers but more gifts would be hugely welcome.”
Puzzle and reading books, scarves, hats and gloves plus confectionery and toiletry gift sets and jigsaw puzzles are some of the many items in demand.
Drop off points for donations can be made at:
- The Gateway Warrington, Sankey Street, Warrington WA1 1SR
- Salon 150, 150 Padgate Lane WA1 3SP
- The Dining Room, 745 Knutsford Road, WA4 1JY
“The last day for drop-offs is this Friday, December 15. This will allow us ample time to allocate, wrap and prepare the gifts for our volunteers, who will be delivering on Christmas Day.”
Jordan emphasised: “Any support you could offer our Christmas initiative is greatly appreciated. This is a great opportunity to come together as a community, with friends, family, or colleagues and show our neighbours that we care.”
She concluded: “Christmas is a magical time but it’s also a challenging time for some people too. If we can make more people smile then it will all be worthwhile.”
