AN ‘under-utilised’ artificial turf facility will be removed as part of plans to build nine storage units on land to the rear of the former Bank Quay Sports and Social Club.
An application proposing the erection of nine storage units with associated landscaping and cycle parking, improved vehicular access and inter-visibility at the site, on Green Street, has been approved subject to conditions and a Section 106 agreement.
It also includes the demolition of an existing single storey side extension and removal of the existing artificial turf facility.
A planning statement stated the storage units would measure 5m wide by 8m long, providing approximately 40 sqm of storage space each.
It said: “They would therefore sit comfortably within the existing built context.
“The units would be made available for personal or commercial storage for residents or businesses, providing an attractive, accessible location for those needing storage space nearby.”
Furthermore, it said the current artificial turf facility is ‘under-utilised and unsustainable’ since the closure of the associated club.
It added: “The storage units would provide a sustainable long-term use for the site that is more appropriate within the surrounding industrial context.
“The storage units would provide bespoke space for nearby residents, businesses and other entities in the local area and would aid the council with providing a range of storage and distribution facilities of a variety of scales in suitably accessible locations in accordance with aspirations of the NPPF.”
