A NEW council leader will be appointed at a meeting on Monday.
Cllr Hans Mundry, cabinet member for transportation, highways and public realm, will take up the role – with Cllr Janet Henshaw, cabinet member for sustainability and climate change, to become the deputy leader.
This comes after outgoing council leader Cllr Russ Bowden, along with outgoing deputy Cllr Cathy Mitchell, made announcements confirming they would not be seeking re-election next year.
The new leader and deputy were confirmed following a meeting of the council’s Labour group, which holds a majority on the council.
At the full council meeting at the Parr Hall on Monday, members will appoint the new leader.
The reasons for recommendation have been stated as ‘to ensure that the council is compliant with the legislative and constitutional requirements relating to leader of the council’.
