A THUG who punched a 69-year-old in the face while he was waiting at a bus stop has been jailed.

Steven Gorvett assaulted the pensioner, who he did not know, on Bridge Street before riding off on his bike.

Police were called to the incident at around 10.30pm on October 3.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson revealed that at the time, there was no positive identification of the suspect.

But on October 13, a Warrington Borough Council CCTV operator sighted the suspect riding a bike through the town centre.

Officers reviewed the footage and identified the 46-year-old as the suspect.

Gorvett, of no fixed abode but formerly of Orford, was subsequently charged in relation to the assault.

He appeared before Chester Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Here, he was jailed for eight weeks due to his ‘flagrant disregard’ for people and the nature and seriousness of the attack on a ‘vulnerable’ and ‘elderly’ person.

Gorvett is no stranger to the courts having amassed previous convictions for more than 150 offences.

One of these includes him stealing iPads from a primary school.
