DELAYS of almost an hour are building on the M56 after a crash in the Warrington stretch of the motorway.
Three lanes have been closed on the westbound section of the road after a serious collision took place.
Traffic is currently passing the scene of the crash via the hard shoulder.
The incident occurred between Junction 10, Stretton, and Junction 11, Preston Brook.
National Highways posted on X regarding the incident:
"Lanes 1, 2, and 3 (of 3) are closed on the M56 in #Cheshire westbound between J10 & J11 due to a collision.
"Traffic is passing the scene of the incident on the hard shoulder.
"Delays of at least 70 minutes above normal travel times, please allow extra journey time."
A spokesperson for National Highways has said:
"A collision involving two cars occurred on the M56 westbound between junctions 10 (Stretton) and 11 (Preston Brook) just after 4.50pm, which resulted in three lanes being closed. Police and National Highways attended the scene.
"The vehicles involved have now been recovered and all lanes on the westbound carriageway have been reopened. There are currently residual delays of around 15 minutes at the scene, less than one mile of congestion.
Cheshire Police have been contacted for comment.
