RESIDENTS have the chance to remember family and friends no longer with us next weekend.

St Rocco’s Hospice will be opening its doors on Sunday, December 3 and welcoming everyone to join them this Christmas for its Light Up a Life event.

A spokesman said: "“We know how important it is to remember your loved one this Christmas and we would like to welcome you to celebrate their life together with St Rocco’s Hospice. Each light on our tree will represent a cherished memory and will shine brightly amongst thousands of others.”

At 4pm, the Christmas tree lights will be switched on and you will have the chance to listen to carols within the beautifully lit hospice garden. There will be a children’s Christmas tree especially for young supporters with a Letters to Loved Ones post box. By dedicating a light, you will also be able to choose to have your loved one’s name written in a book of honour which can also be viewed on the day.

To help make this festive event a joyous occasion, there will be a family Christmas fair from 2pm with a host of stalls including tombola, face painting, handmade crafts by St Rocco’s Craft Group, festive wreaths, cake stall and food and drink vendors.

For anyone who prefers the traditional Light up a Life event, there will also be a church service on Wednesday,  December 6 at 7pm at St Elphin’s Church.

A spokesman added: “By supporting us this Christmas, you are helping us to continue to care for the people in our community who need us. By lighting up a life together this year, we can be the light in more lives next year.”
