A SECRET serene spot just down the M62 is setting up a Christmassy light trail.

Castlefield Viaduct in Manchester has announced its winter calendar, with lights trails, guided tours, and winter lanterns at one of the most beautiful spots in Manchester.

The Viaduct will see a winter program of Garden tours, ‘Lantern lates’, and a ‘Cosy corner’.

The Garden tours will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, December 13, Friday December 15, Thursday, December 28, Friday, December 29.

This will be a free tour, however the National Trust, which runs the free-entry site, states that booking is essential.

Over the Christmas period, the Viaduct will stay open throughout, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

It will then close between January 2 and February 10 of next year, making the Christmas period your last chance to visit for more than a month.

From 3.30 till 5pm every day, the viaduct will transform into ‘a magical, sparkling grotto,’ with a beautiful light trail and a great view of Manchester’s skyline.

The viaduct was opened to visitors in July 2022 in a hidden-away spot above the busy sprawling city, originally planned as a year-long pilot.

Due to the success and popularity of the scheme, however, this was extended by The National Trust until Autumn 2024.
