POLICE have confirmed that a man died after being hit by a train in Warrington over the weekend.
The incident occurred shortly before 1.15pm on Saturday at Padgate railway station.
A large emergency service presence was in attendance at the station.
The railway line was blocked between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central, with trains cancelled and delayed for a number of hours.
In a statement issued this morning, Monday, British Transport Police has confirmed that the casualty was an 18-year-old man.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police were called to Padgate Station at around 1.13pm on Saturday, November 18, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, but sadly a person – an 18-year-old man – was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
