THE M56 is currently closed in both directions due to a police incident.
Cheshire Police has confirmed that it is in attendance on the motorway between junction 11 for the A56 Chester Road at Preston Brook and junction 12 for the A557 at Runcorn.
Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance.
Long delays are forming as a result back past junction 10 for Stretton heading westbound and the M53 eastbound.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At around 3pm, police were called to the M56 between junctions 11 and 12.
“Officers were called to reports of pedestrians in the carriageway.
“Officers are in attendance at the scene and have restrained a man.
“An ambulance is also in attendance but there are no reports of any injuries.”
North West Motorway Police added: “We currently have the M56 closed eastbound at junction 12 while we deal with a police incident.
“Please bear with us. We are hoping to re-open it shortly.”
