THE case of one of Warrington’s most heartbreaking and highest-profile missing person reports has been broadcast on national TV.
James Miller was last seen three days before Christmas – on CCTV at around 11pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
The much-missed dad, son, brother and uncle left his family home on Slater Street in Latchford and has not been seen since.
While almost three years have passed since the then-37-year-old mechanic’s disappearance, James’ family has not given up hope in finding him, and they hold onto the possibility of him walking through the door every day.
The missing person case and his sister Emma appeared on Channel 5’s Vanished: The Hunt for Britain's Missing People last night, Wednesday, in a bid to appeal to anyone with any information to get in touch with Cheshire Police
Speaking on the programme, Emma said: “James was so loving and the best big brother with piercing blue eyes.
“Everyone loved him, everyone knew him in Warrington. “He loved going to Warrington Wolves matches, he was the one chanting the loudest.
“When James went missing, we were in lockdown. Unfortunately, it was a really hard time for James. He was a key worker, so he literally went to work, came home, went to work, and without that socialising really did not help with his mental health.
“It was 10.30pm and mum went to him and said: “Come on James, turn your music off. You’ve got work in the morning and I’ve got work in the morning, time for bed.”
“She left the room and heard the music go off and thought he had gone to bed. Then she heard the front door go and looked out of the window and saw James walking off to the right down Slater Street.
“He had not been in touch with anyone, he hadn’t taken his phone and then hadn’t turned up to work. That is when the alarm bells went off in my head.
“I have posted all the way up to Scotland down to Cornwall. You feel numb, and I have for nearly three years.
“You’re living in a surreal world, but we still every day think of James, talk of James and keep that message of James out there.”
Appearing on the programme and being interviewed by host Dan Walker was DI David Schofield, from Cheshire Police.
He said: “As you can see from the CCTV, James leaves his home address and walks along Slater Street. We are keeping an open mind as to what happened after that.
“Following the investigation, we conducted extensive searches in the local area, which included a search of the River Mersey and Victoria Park.
“This involved the use of the police helicopter, police drone and specially trained search officers. Unfortunately, we did not find anything that could assist with the investigation.
“James left his mobile telephone at home, but did take his wallet with him, however there has been no activity on his bank since.”
He went on to say: “We have had several reported sightings since then, both in Warrington and further afield in the likes of Liverpool and Manchester, and each report has been investigated, but we have not had and confirmed sightings of him.”
DI Schofield was then asked what he would say to James directly, or someone who might be watching.
He responded: “James, your family is understandably very worried and very upset, particularly with Christmas approaching.
“It is a difficult time for them with James leaving three days before Christmas Day in December 2020.
“We have investigated since then, but we just do not know where James is, so if anyone has any information at all, no matter how small, regarding James’ disappearance or his current whereabouts, please do get in touch.”
Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 880492.
