THE nights are closing in and temperatures are dropping as we welcome the most picturesque season, autumn. 

Now on a Sunday afternoon, all we want to do is get wrapped up in our winter coats and head down to a cosy pub for a tasty roast with all the trimmings.

The White Hart – 4.4

After receiving a refurbishment in February last year its second floor has been opened up to more seating, to make sure they can fit everyone in for their delicious roast dinners. 

The Sunday menu comprises of a roasted topside of beef and the special roast of the day. 

Plus you can get your little ones a mini roast for just £5.95. 

The Maltings – 4.4

This lovely old pub on Bewsey Farm Close is owned by Priory Inns and is praised for its ‘charming ambience’ and ‘secluded location’. 

Its dog-friendly so the pups can join the Sunday feast as well, with every variety of roast meat on offer. 

They also provide a vegan-friendly nut roast and a kids roast is great value for money at £4.95. 

The Walton Arms – 4.3

Based in Higher Walton, this beautiful country pub has been described by many visitors as ‘cosy’ and ‘comfortable’. 

With the added bonus that they serve up a ‘fantastic’ roast dinner. 

The Walton Arms holds plenty of history which starts with its Tudor-style exterior. It was originally built in the 1800 and was re-built in 1875. 

Plenty of log fires inside will keep you toasty and warm as you enjoy their extensive Sunday menu. 

The Blue Bell – 4.3

One reviewer described the atmosphere as ‘peaceful’ and the food as ‘delicious’. 

Starting from November, the pub will be introducing their festive Christmas menu which includes a tasty traditional turkey dinner. 

The Dog & Partridge Hotel – 4.3

This charming pub is renowned for its great ales and excellent pub lunches, using only the freshest ingredients. 

Located on Manchester Road, reviewers commend the pub for its ‘warm and welcoming’ feel and ‘excellent’ food – in particular their traditional roast dinners. 

One reviewer said: “Fantastic service, delicious food and great value for money. Thank you for the warm welcome. Would highly recommend.” 

The Stag at Walton – 4.3

This cosy contender had a renovation last year that breathed some life back into the pub. 

Reviewers have called it ‘friendly’ and the food ‘excellent value for money’. 

If you aren’t a fan of small plates, you will enjoy a meal here as portion sizes are very ‘generous’. 

Their Sunday roast is always a winner for regulars and new visitors to the area and it’s a great place to spend our day of rest. 

The Waterside - Pub & Grill – 4.3

Neighbours to us at the Warrington Guardian, the lovely Waterside Pub & Grill is a favourite cosy eating spot for residents. 

Owned by Greene King, this spacy establishment still manages to capture a cosy and comfortable feel and is a great spot for a Sunday afternoon feed. 

Its Sunday menu is one to be admired with the option of a ‘trio of roasts’, roast sirloin of beef, mushroom and stilton and spinach wellington. 

Delicious sides also include duck fat, rosemary & garlic roast potatoes, old epping sausage pig in blanket.
