PROFESSIONAL boxer Hughie Fury has been slapped with a fine by magistrates in Warrington.

The case of the 28-year-old, a cousin of WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, was heard before Warrington Magistrates’ Court.

Hughie, of Hollybank Caravan Park on Warburton Bridge Road in Rixton, fought New Zealander Joseph Parker for the WBO heavyweight title in 2017 in Manchester, but he lost to a majority decision.

But he has been sentenced for failing to cooperate with police investigating a driving offence allegation.

The court heard how Fury, on February 28, having been required by the chief officer of Cheshire Police, he failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle, namely Volvo XC90 who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

The offence was proved in his absence, with the boxer ordered to pay a total of £1,174.

This is broken down into a fine of £660, surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £250.

In addition, due to this being a ‘repeat offence’, Fury was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months.

His driving record has also been endorsed with six penalty points.

Fury’s last bout was on October 16 when he defeated Christian Hammer, but he has been unable to fight since after suffering from the effects of long Covid.
