A RAGING motorist who punched a driver and drove into another pedestrian has been allowed to walk free from court.
Aaron Rowe was driving ‘aggressively’ towards another vehicle on Manchester Road in Warrington when the incident occurred on Thursday, April 25.
Prosecuting, Catherine Ellis said Rowe’s antagonistic driving caused the driver in the other vehicle in the lane to have to break ‘sharply’ as the defendant tried to overtake them.
When the traffic lights came to a stop, the driver got out of his car behind Rowe in retaliation to his dangerous driving.
Rowe, of Palfreyman Drive, Grappenhall, proceeded to get out of his car and began to approach the driver threateningly before punching them in the face, causing them to fall back and break their ankle.
Ms Ellis told the court how the defendant tried to make a quick escape but people who had seen then incident unfold at the traffic lights were making a conscious effort to stop him from driving away.
One woman stood in front of Rowe’s car, and he began to drive into the pedestrian in a bid to free himself from the situation.
She was also injured by his outrageous actions, having received bruising to her knee.
Defending, Gemma Gordon said her client has no previous convictions and that a custodial sentence would have a ‘significant impact’ on his wife, who he is the primary carer for.
The defendant appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday for sentencing, facing charges of grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.
Judge Watson addressed the defendant, saying: “You had driven at the very least in a discourteous way as you past the vehicle.
“You caused injury to the driver. The victim had to have an operation; pins put in his ankle.
“He could not leave his house for two months.”
The Judge served Rowe a 19-month sentence which he suspended for 18 months.
He was also ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work and 23 rehabilitation days and is disqualified from driving for 12 months.
