PLANNING permission has been approved for one of Warrington’s historic pubs.
Plans have been backed by Warrington Borough Council’s planning department for full planning permission and listed building consent.
The pub in question is Red Lion, on London Road in Stockton Heath, located in a Grade II-listed building built circa-1800.
The application by applicant Daniel Thwaites Plc has been given approval for the construction of a suite of toilets within an existing outbuilding, including services and finishes.
Documents state: “The property currently is trading well, but in an effort to secure the commercial future of the business, the applicant is looking to increase the provision of WC capacity so that external areas can be better served.
“The proposals include construction of a timber frame shell sat on a brick plinth, located mainly within the existing outbuilding to the rear of the main inn and adjacent to the bowling green.”
They go on to say: “It should be noted that the proposed works only affect the main rear outbuilding, details of which are not included in the listing.
“When looking at works to listed buildings, consideration must be given to the impact any work will have on the building and its setting.
“In this respect, the prosed works are minor in nature and do not affect any elements of the listing, and certainly will not materially affect the appearance or setting of the building itself.”
Plans were approved this week.
