THE green waste scheme has been extended in Warrington due to current bin strike action.
Residents who pay a subscription to have their green waste bins collected every fortnight will still receive the number of collections they have subscribed to, the council says.
Currently no bins are being collected across the borough after members of Unite the Union announced strike action would take place on Monday for a period of two weeks.
Initially it was said that there would be little disruption involved during the weeks ahead.
However, it is understood that members of other unions have refused to cross the picket line, bringing the service to a standstill.
So no refuse collection vehicles have been deployed so far this week.
The council have confirmed they will extend the green waste scheme so that people who pay the annual subscription will still receive the amount of collection days they are entitled to.
The green waste collection dates previously ran to November but will now be extended to December 8.
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: "The industrial action is intended to continue until 16 October.
“We would ask residents to store their waste until their next collection date, when it will be collected.
"The garden waste scheme will be extended to provide residents with the contracted number of collections they have subscribed to."
There will be no discount in council tax to make up for the shortfall in black and blue bin collections.
Further updates are yet to come on waste collection days going ahead throughout the next two weeks.
