AS there is still uncertainty around if any bins in Warrington will be collected this week due to a walk out of staff, many will be looking to take their excess waste to the local tip instead.

Some recycling centres around the town have extended their opening hours in light of the strike action.

Here are the local tips you can visit and their opening hours this week:

Gatewarth Community Recycling Centre, Barnard Street, Great Sankey

Opening hours: 8am to 6pm

Days open: Monday to Sunday

Woolston Community Recycling Centre, New Cut Lane

Opening hours: 8am to 6pm

Days open: Monday to Sunday

Stockton Heath Community Recycling Centre, Sandy Lane

Opening Hours: 10am to 4pm

Days open: Monday to Sunday

Industrial action is being taken by members of Unite the Union and strikes officially began yesterday, Tuesday, with workers stood at a picket line outside Woolston recycling depot.

The strikes are set to last until Monday, October 16, and the council are unsure as to whether any bins will be collected prior to that date but are advising residents to still keep putting the correct bins out on the allocated days.

As well as this, they have offered advice in the meantime on helping store waste:

• Flatten or squash as much household waste or recycling as possible, to maximise space in your bins

• “Pooling” bin space with your neighbours, for those who routinely create less household waste/recycling

• Keeping household recycling items indoors, if you have the space available and your bin is full

A spokesperson from Warrington Borough Council said: “We appreciate that the strike action will cause you disruption, and we are grateful for your patience and understanding during this period.

“We will offer a further update soon about how we will support the catch-up operation following industrial action.”
