A WARRINGTON councillor is urging residents to attend a free event regarding multiple sclerosis.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin has issued a rallying cry for anyone affected by multiple sclerosis to attend a free event taking place next month at the Pyramid Centre.
The MS Society is inviting anyone affected by multiple sclerosis in and around Warrington to join them for an information and discussion event on Thursday, November 9.
More than 130,000 people live with MS in the UK, with around 4,750 people in Cheshire and Merseyside.
The condition damages nerves in the body and makes it harder to do everyday things, like walk, talk, eat and think.
At the free information event people will learn about the work of the local MS group and hear about wider services for people living with and affected by MS.
The MS Society is also looking to recruit volunteers to support the development of local services.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin lives with multiple sclerosis, she said: "Living with MS, I have first-hand experience of having to make significant changes in my life to enable me to manage the condition.
"I also know what it's like to live with MS fatigue and I appreciate that this, along with the wide range of other symptoms, can be truly debilitating.
“I am delighted this information event is taking place so other people affected by MS can learn how to live well with the condition."
Paul Smithson, MS Society regional development officer, added: “Warrington has a vibrant voluntary sector, but sadly our own local MS Society group needs more volunteers.
"We’re really keen to hear from anyone who would like to join our dedicated team and help develop and run our invaluable local MS services.
"You can contact me at paul.smithson@mssociety.org.uk for more information or go to the volunteer section at www.mssociety.org.uk."
There will be a free buffet lunch at the event, too.
The MS Society information event will take place between 11am and 2.30pm on Thursday, November 9, at the Pyramid Centre.
