A NEW scheme has been announced to bring art into Warrington town centre.
Warrington Arts Council has created 'Art and About' to encourage the creation and placement of art installations and performances in public spaces throughout the town centre by local artists.
And they hope all local organisations related to the arts will jump get involved.
The arts council is already hitting the ground running with a group of local artists, Warrington Youth Zone and the Warrington BID with a view to working in conjunction with Culture Warrington and as many partners as it can.
This will work hand in hand with Warrington Arts Council’s long term mission to make sure that wherever you stand in Warrington town centre you will be able to see or experience some sort of art.
“We believe that art can make a massive difference in people’s lives,” said Paul Taylor, Chair of Warrington Arts Council.
“Art makes our town more vibrant, more colourful, more welcoming and gives people something to talk and smile about. That’s why we’re launching Art and About. We want to see as many organisations as possible getting involved in this and show everyone that there’s more culture in Warrington than you can shake a stick at.
“We want to make it easy for people to come across art in their everyday lives, and we want to use art to make our town a more welcoming and inclusive place.”
The idea is that Art and About will feature all varieties of art forms, including painting, sculpture, photography, music, and dance. The installations and performances will be free and open to all.
“We’re excited to see what kind of art people create for Art and About,” said Richard Cowley, Vice Chair of Warrington Arts Council. “We know that there are a lot of talented artists in Warrington, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.
"You can see from the reaction that Tim Twist’s brilliant mural near the new Youth Zone has created that there is a thirst for this sort of thing in town and it’s time to make sure we can all experience art everywhere.”
Art and About will be launching this year and will go on for the foreseeable future until we reach a point that you can see or experience art wherever you are standing in Warrington Town Centre.
