AN interactive map has revealed which parts of Warrington could be underwater as early as 2030.
Many areas of the town could be flooded in seven years according to a sea level rise and coastal flood threats map created by Climate Central.
Based on peer-reviewed science in leading journals, Climate Central has stressed that the maps include big datasets, ‘which always include some error’.
It also warns that estimates do not factor in man-made structures to prevent further damage including seawalls - meaning it is likely some areas will not face the true expected scale of damage.
On the map, many areas of Warrington can be seen shaded red – meaning they are at risk of flooding if sea levels rise by 2030.
In particular parts of Howley, Stockton Heath, Latchford, Orford, Lower Walton, Sankey Bridges, and Penketh could be under threat.
Next door to Warrington, Moore and Sandymoor, which cross into the Halton border, are also at risk as well as other areas in Widnes and Runcorn including the Wigg Island and West Bank area.
