A WOOLSTON mum and experienced runner said the Warrington half marathon was ‘the hilliest she has ever done’.
Rachael Staunton participated in the world first event on Sunday with more than 6,000 other runners which started and finished at Bank Park in the town centre.
The 30-year-old decided to run the half marathon to raise some money for the international charity she works as an engagement coordinator for – Christian Aid.
Rachael has completed several half marathons prior to the event and managed to run the most recent in under two hours, therefore she set herself the challenging of topping that PB (personal best).
Speaking on how the Warrington half marathon went, she said: “I’m pleased to have completed it,” she added. “The weather was actually perfect in the end, and I finished in a respectable 1:59:56.
“A big thank you to everybody who sponsored me - I ended up raising £375, which far exceeded my target.”
The money Rachael raised will go towards the work of Christian Aid which supports projects run by local partners in vulnerable communities around the globe, campaigns on issues including climate justice, and provides humanitarian aid through appeals such as the recent Libya Floods Appeal.
Concluding, she said: “I enjoy running and I think we can all use our abilities and skills to help others.”
