Next on the menu was the search for Warrington’s Best Pub or Bar and The Seven Woods took the latest Best of 2023 crown making them back-to-back winners.
Lez and Vicki Anders took over as managers of the Westbrook Crescent venue in January 2016.
Lez grew up in Longford and Vicki is from Manchester and after spending many years repairing cars (Lez) and studying social care (Vicki) they discovered a passion for running pubs.
Lez said: “We have a strong knowledge of the trade having run pubs for the last 15 years.
“The Seven Woods is a local community pub that provides great service with great standards.
“We have a wide choice of food and drink along with Sky and TNT Sport, a darts team and a poker night as well as live music, including tribute nights, and children’s fun days.
“We also sponsor four local football teams and hold regular local charity events.”
The couple enjoy running the pub and being at the heart of the community but it does bring certain challenges.
Vicki said: “Working in the hospitality industry is a lifestyle not just a job.
“Our team here is incredible - they support us in everything we do and we all love the social aspect within our community.
“It’s great to hear fantastic feedback from our customers when they tell us how much they’ve enjoyed visiting the pub.”
So, what do customers think about The Seven Woods? Why did they want the venue to win the best pub or bar title for the second year in a row?
Were we swamped with nominations for this popular venue with the staff, food and beer getting the thumbs up.
One customer said: “The proprietors of this wonderful establishment are incredibly kind and generous and make you feel like a member of the family – it’s like a second home.
“The Seven Woods is a place you want to go back to time and again.”
The newly crowned Best Pub 2023 was forced to close during the Covid-19 lockdowns but the building became a hub for food parcels, as well as cleaning and washing supplies that were distributed to vulnerable, elderly and shielding people across Warrington.
When the government gave the green light for pubs and restaurants to reopen on April 12, 2021 Vicki was nine months pregnant but together with Lez she welcomed customers back inside the pub before welcoming their daughter Sienna just six days later.
The friendly atmosphere at The Seven Woods is a hit with regulars and their dedicated team provides “excellent service” and “always making you feel welcome”.
Lez and Vicki were grateful to be nominated and make the shortlist but were shocked to hear they’d won the award again.
Lez said: “We were ecstatic to hear we had won for a second year running and are so grateful to our team and customers for their loyal support.
“We would like to thank every single person who took the time to vote for us and who support us in everything we do.
“We appreciate everyone who voted for us this year to make us double award winners.”
