A HUGE name in the dessert world is set to open a new drive-thru doughnut store in Warrington.

Plans have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department to open a Krispy Kreme kiosk off one of the town’s busiest roundabouts.

The scheme is seeking permission to open off Cockhedge Green roundabout – on existing car park land which is part of School Brow Retail Park, in between Manchester Road, School Brow and Hopwood Street.

Although eight EV charging spots would be created, the plans overall would reduce the size of the car park by 33 spaces, from 120 to 87.

Also included in the plans by applicant IGP Investments Ltd are associated works including landscaping and the reconfiguration of the existing car park.

There would be space for seven vehicles in the queue for the kiosk.

A traffic impact statement reads: “Vehicle trips to and from the proposed drive-thru unit would likely be in the local area in any event.

“As such, it is not anticipated that the development would affect the nature of the operation of the local road network.

“The proposed scheme is consistent with relevant transport planning policy guidance and will not give rise to any material transport related impacts.”

The kiosk unit would not feature any internal customer seating, meaning that all food sold from the unit will be collected and consumed off-site via customer collection points.

Documents add: “The proposals would be of a high-quality appearance, efficient layout and incorporate landscaping to comfortably sit within the existing context.

“Furthermore, the operation of the kiosk will not involve the cooking of any food goods, and will operate like a small retail unit, similar to that of Starbucks or Costa Coffee.

“The nature of the proposed kiosk and associated drive-thru lane will not detract from the existing character of the wider retail park, but instead will offer an attractive and convenient function that will generate footfall to the retail park and complement the existing uses.

“Additional road markings will also be introduced within the drive-thru lane itself, which will make customers aware of the ordering and collection points, and where vehicles need to give way to other vehicles navigating the car park.”

Krispy Kreme, an American multinational doughnut company and coffee house chain, was founded by Vernon Rudolph in North Carolina in 1937.
