A FIREFIGHTER from Lymm fire station has been deployed to assist with rescue efforts in Morocco.
Following a major earthquake, it is estimated that thousands have been killed, with thousands more injured.
According to NBC News, more than 2,900 people have died as a result of the earthquake, and a further 5,530 have been injured - the earthquake took place on Friday, September 8.
Two firefighters from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have been deployed to assist in the search and rescue efforts, as members of the UK International Search and Rescue Team.
According to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the two firefighters have arrived safely in Morocco and have begun assisting with operations there.
The service posted on social media: "Two of our firefighters, members of the UK International Search and Rescue Team, are in Morocco as part of the UK team helping with the search and rescue mission.
"We'll update with the team's progress whenever we can."
Posting a video on social media, the service added: "SM Paul Rostance and FF Ian Wilson are in Morocco.
"They sent us this video they filmed as they were en route to their base of operations in the Atlas Mountains where the team treated injured people and searched for survivors in collapsed buildings."
