A MAIN route through Warrington has been closed by police this afternoon, Tuesday.
Winwick Road was blocked in both directions due to a crash at rush hour near to Warrington and Vale Royal College, with a teenager suffering serious injuries. The road remains shut heading into town but has been opened in the other direction.
Queueing traffic is building on the A49 due to the accident, with an air ambulance also dispatched to the scene.Cromwell Avenue up to Gemini is also busy.
This occurred at the traffic light junction with Long Lane and it involves a car and a cyclist.
Traffic reports state that the incident is affecting traffic between the M62 at junction nine for Winwick and the centre of Warrington.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Shortly after 4.15pm on Tuesday, September 12, police were called to reports of a collision on Winwick Road involving a car and a cyclist.
“The cyclist, a teenager, is believed to have suffered serious injuries and is being treated at the scene by paramedics.”
“An air ambulance is also in attendance.”
Long delays are being reported around the area with the closure up to the roundabout for Cromwell Avenue.
Diversions are in place on the 19, 21 & 22 because of an accident on Winwick Road Southbound. Services will divert via Long Lane to the bus station
