ALDI says ‘over-trading’ at one of its Warrington stores led to the decision to open a new supermarket nearby.

The German discount retailer will be opening the doors to its much-anticipated new store at Gemini on Thursday morning at 8am.

After receiving planning permission in September last year, Aldi has been working hard behind the scenes to prepare the new store to open.

The chain says the need for it is great as it will relieve the pressure on its existing Fordton Retail Park store, which it says is currently over-trading.

Formerly a brownfield site used by Arnold Clark, the new Gemini store will bring the site back into productive use, meeting the need and desire for a new discount food store in this area.

It will also support the employment of 44 residents, who will be paid at an industry leading rate.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting will be completed by Team GB’s Laura Deas, a 2018 Winter Olympic medallist.

The first few customers to visit the store will be provided with complimentary food items.

Bryn Richards, real estate director for Aldi said: “We are very excited to be opening our store at Gemini Retail Park.

“This store will bring our award-winning range of low-cost, high-quality goods to shoppers in Warrington and nearby.

“We know that anticipation has been building for our opening day and we cannot wait to finally welcome customers into the store.

“We have commenced our hiring process and will create a strong in-store team, to deliver a first-class experience for shoppers.

“With Team GB Olympic hero Laura Deas cutting the ribbon, we cannot wait to build a broad base of customers who trust Aldi to help them save on their shop, without compromising on quality.”

The new store opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 8am to 10pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
