THE hard work and dedication of volunteers working on Glazebrook Station paid off at the weekend.
A celebratory open day event was held at the railway station to mark 150 years of services running there.
The day was well-attended, with volunteers showing off the progress they have made since they began caring for the station.
In the summer of 2022, the Friends of Glazebrook Station was formed - dedicating themselves to the care and upkeep of the station, which was in dire need of attention.
Since then, the group has worked tirelessly to restore the station to the glory of its younger years; and what more fitting way to show off the progress made is there than at the station's 150th birthday party?
The group invited members of the public to the open day event, held on Saturday, September 2, and the event was well-attended.
Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, the Friends group said: "The special day to celebrate the 150th anniversary attracted hundreds of visitors, though because of strikes the only trains on view formed part of an N-gauge layout of the station created by members of Warrington Model Railway club.
"The station is now mostly unmanned but back in the 1950s and 1960s the large staff’s beautiful gardens earned it national prizes.
"Descendants of station staff were among those attending the event and others who joined in the fun were the suitably attired flat cappers who processed from the next up the line Irlam station which they have transformed in recent years."
The volunteer group hopes that the coverage of their work encourages others to join them on their next volunteer working day, which will be Saturday, September 16.
