A SECTION of a flood alert issued for the River Mersey estuary in Warrington has been upgraded to a flood warning.

The alert was initially issued by the Environment Agency yesterday afternoon, Thursday, and it remains in force.

This states that ‘flooding is possible in this area’, warning residents to be prepared.

But an area of Chester Road, between Brian Bevan Island and Arpley Railway Bridge, as well as Arpley Road, have now been made the subject of a flood warning.

Areas encompassed by the alert include Penketh, Sankey Bridges, Centre Park, Latchford, Victoria Park, Westy and Howley.

No time limit has been placed on the alert due to ongoing industrial action, with people urged to monitor weather conditions.

The alert states: “Flooding is possible in this area. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.

“Avoid using low-lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.
