STAFF at a beloved animal charity have been reduced to tears at the amazing generosity of residents after reaching a ‘crisis point’.

Warrington Animal Welfare issued a public cry for help on Friday after reaching a low it had never reached before in terms of being able to feed the animals it cares for.

The shelter took to social media to share its struggles, prompting Warringtonians to attend in numbers to drop off supplies of animal food.

Warrington Animal Welfare says it was ‘absolutely overwhelmed’ and ‘blown away’ by the response.

On Friday, the charity said: “We have hit a crisis point that we have never reached before with our charity.

“We have 25 little mouths to feed and three boxes of kitten food in our cupboard.

“This is a crisis appeal for food to help feed our cats. We are desperately appealing for food to help us feed our most vulnerable kittens.

“While our adult cat food supplies are dwindling rapidly, we have 36 pouches of kitten food left to feed the kittens we have in our care.

“Only yesterday we took in two more poor souls who had been discarded like rubbish in a garden. Please help us to feed them.”

Less than 24 hours later, the charity posted: “A few tears today – WOW! Sometimes dealing with animals in unfortunate situations can make working at a rescue centre quite hard.

“We already know there is a lot of kindness in the world due to our wonderful volunteers who help us each and every day, which helps restore our faith, but we are absolutely overwhelmed by the response to our kitten food appeal.

“We were optimistically hoping to get enough food to last us a few weeks. Today has blown us away.

“We want to give an enormous thank you to everybody who braved the appalling weather and flooding today to get their donations to the centre.

“There really are so many kind people out there. We are just so extremely grateful.”

Staff added: “If we are ever having a bad day in the future, all we need to do is look at this picture to see that there are an awful lot of good people out there.

“Your kindness and donations keep us going during these tough times. It is incredibly humbling and heartening to know we have your support.

“Thank you from everybody at Warrington Animal Welfare. We could not do it without your support.”
