STUDENTS at Cardinal Newman Catholic High School were overjoyed as they received their GCSE results this morning.
The secondary school off Bridgewater Avenue in Latchford is celebrating a number of its outgoing students' academic achievements, as they scored particularly highly in this year's exams.
Headteacher Jo Langstaff praised her outgoing pupils, saying: "Our students have conducted themselves impeccably throughout the exam season, showing real determination to achieve the best they are capable of.
"Undoubtedly, the hard work of our staff and the fantastic support from our parents and carers has contributed to their success today.
"We are really proud of our young people."
This year is a particularly special year for one member of staff, as deputy headteacher Mel Burras is retiring from Cardinal Newman after 28 years at the school.
Mel said: "In my final year, it is heartening to see that, yet again, our year 11 students leave us in a strong position to move on to the next stage of their education, whether this is taking up a place at a sixth form college or securing an apprenticeship.
"We wish all of our students every happiness and success as they leave us to pursue new opportunities in September."
The school added: "We are particularly pleased with the number of students who have made impressive progress from their starting points since joining the school, through hard work and commitment to their studies.
"There have been many personal successes and outstanding performances with several students achieving results at the very highest grades across the board."
Cardinal Newman's high achievers this year included:
Oliwia Bakon, Sam Yates, Leo Hemmington, Leah Hibbert, Caitlin Stabbins, Callum Taylor, Katieanne Titchard, Heidi Morgan, and Liv Toone.
