DO you notice anything unfamiliar about the picture?
We have dipped into our archives to find this image of the Town Hall.
Of course, it contains the massive fountain that used to sit on the Town Hall lawns.
The ornate iron fountain was presented to the town in 1899 in honour of Peter Walker, founder of Walker’s Brewery.
Manufactured by Walter Mcfarlane and Company of Possil Park, Glasgow, it cost £1,000.
Two other fountains made to the same design still survive, one in Glasgow and one in Pretoria, South Africa.
The fountain was sorely missed by the people of Warrington after it was scrapped, in 1942, to help with the effort during the Second World War.
Interestingly, the grass surrounding where the fountain used to stand still grows in a unique way due to the historic landmark.
