ORFORD pupils have been met with standing ovations following their performance of a highly acclaimed musical that celebrates diversity.
Beamont Collegiate Academy opened the curtains on the production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie last month.
Based on a true story and documentary, the musical follows the journey of Jamie New – a young northern boy who loves dressing up in girls clothes.
He battles bullying and prejudice on his journey to becoming a star.
The production helps fight stereotypes and challenge viewpoints in the hope of one day living in a ‘kind and accepting world’.
Drama teacher Mrs Curwen said: “We chose this musical as a celebration of diversity, to promote, respect and highlight the importance of acceptance, individuality and friendship.
“We have loved watching our students enjoy the creative process whilst making memories along the way.”
Year seven and all the way up to year ten pupils took part in the thought-provoking show, with former students even returning to the school’s stage to take part.
Fellow drama teacher, Mrs Thomas added: “The students have been extremely dedicated to the rehearsal process and we are so proud of their commitment and talent.
“We are privileged to have witnessed our students develop in confidence, maturity and professionalism.”
