A RISLEY prisoner threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend’s family and ‘make her pay’ in a string of sinister messages.

Thomas Spence was serving a sentence for sexual offences involving a child when he and other inmates decided to continuously ring his victim’s phone and left disturbing voicemails threatening to ‘slice her dads throat open’.

Prosecuting, Chris Taylor said the 28-year-old had previously been in a relation with the victim, from Warrington.

Liverpool Crown Court heard last Friday how the victim received countless missed calls from Spence and other inmates in July 2022.

She received a voicemail from him on July 5 where he made ‘threats against her’.

Spence said he would ‘cause her a world of pain’, ‘make her pay’ and said, ‘I am going to slice your dads throat open’.

The defendant, of Leeds, was arrested at HMP Risley and taken in for questioning, where he remained silent.

Mr Taylor read out a victim impact statement to the court which said the incident had ‘considerable impact’ on her.

She can no longer leave her address and has to be driven to and from work.

Defending, Emma Clarke highlighted mitigation including the mental health issues Spence has suffered with.

Concluding, Judge Trevor Jones served the defendant a 10-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

An eight-year restraining order was also issued to protect the victim.
