RESIDENTS are being warned that flooding is possible in areas of Warrington this evening, Thursday.
A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Mersey estuary in the town.
This states that flooding is possible, with residents urged to ‘be prepared’.
Among the areas incorporated into the alert, as shown on the below map, are parts of Penketh, Sankey Bridges, Centre Park, Latchford and Victoria Park.
The alert reads: “The high tide is expected to be higher than usual at the Mersey estuary at Warrington as a result of high spring tides.
“Consequently, flooding of low-lying land is possible tomorrow morning, Friday, peaking at 2am at the following places.
“Fiddlers Ferry will peak at 6.3meters, Eastford Road at 6.45meters and Arpley Bridge at 6.5meters.
“It is possible that river levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge.
“Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the situation and will issue flood warnings if necessary.
“Please be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation.
“This message will be updated when the situation changes.”
