POLICE have confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection to a reported attempted abduction.

It comes after a teenager reported that she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man who tried to force her into bushes.

The 19-year-old woman was walking along Winwick Road, near to Majestic Wine, at around 3.10am on Saturday when the incident is believed to have taken place.

The woman manged to escape unharmed and sought help from a taxi driver passing.

Cheshire Police issued an appeal for information the following day and released CCTV images of a man it was searching for in relation to the incident.

Detectives investigating the reports have today, Monday, confirmed that officers have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

At around 9.30pm yesterday, Sunday, officers conducted a warrant at an address on Thelwall Lane in Latchford and arrested a suspect.

The man remains in custody at this time, where he is helping officers with their enquiries, a force spokesman said.

DCI Clare Coleman said: “I understand the concern that this incident is likely to have caused, and I hope that this arrest provides reassurance for the local community.

“I am aware that there have been a lot of rumours on social media in relation to this incident and I would urge people not to speculate.

“The man we have arrested resides in the Warrington area and is not an asylum seeker as has been suggested online.”

In the original appeal, DCI Danielle Knox, said: “The victim in this case has been left extremely shaken as a result of her ordeal.

“We are committed to doing all we can to identify the person responsible and patrols have been stepped up in the local area.”
