WOOLSTON'S Holiday Inn has been given a new hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.
The hotel has been closed to the public until further notice in order to accommodate asylum seekers in Warrington.
A decision was made in late April that the Holiday Inn would be used as part of the government's scheme to house asylum seekers.
This decision proved to be a controversial one, raising concerns from the MP for Warrington North, as well as from local Conservative councillors, too.
According to a document seen by the Warrington Guardian, the hotel has a maximum occupancy of 100 single adults.
The Holiday Inn has since been inspected by the Food Standards Agency, as it contains a registered eating establishment - Tapori Curry Bar.
Following an inspection by the FSA on June 13, the curry bar was given a rating of five-out-of-five for hygiene.
New ratings are made public some time after an inspection is carried out - hence the establishment being inspected in June, but the new rating only being visible from July.
Hygiene ratings are issued following inspections that look across the following categories:
- Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage
- Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene
- Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future
The establishment was rated as 'very good' for hygienic food handling and the management of food safety; it was rated 'good' for the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building.
All information is taken from the Food Standards Agency's website, and is accurate at the time of writing.
