Next on the list was the search for Warrington’s Best for Dessert and White Lace Bakery took the latest Best of 2023 crown, securing back-to-back wins.
White Lace Bakery was a home-based business in 2016 with all the wedding cakes produced in a converted garage.
The family-run sweet artisan bakery, which has a town centre shop and one in Culcheth - specialises in a wide range of homemade bakes, brownies and blondies and they also serve ice cream, milkshakes and cream teas with freshly made scones and clotted cream.
They also make birthday cakes and offer wholesale orders to other businesses.
Lindsay, who previously worked in customer service, said: “The business grew from making a few birthday cakes to specialising in wedding cakes making more than 100 wedding cakes a year.
“We then decided to open a shop and a bakery and grow the range of bakes on our menu.
“We offer treat boxes as well as celebration and birthday cakes and we have a full counter of our daily bakes daily, that range from brownies to cookie pies.
“Our lemon meringue blondies have been hugely popular this year.
“Both shops have seating so you can watch the world go by while eating your treat and enjoying a drink.”
Lindsay added: “We sort of fell into the business after I was made redundant and started baking.
“The wedding cake business grew really quickly after being featured in OK magazine and winning several awards.
“Graham, who has a background working in hospitality, joined full time in 2018 and we rebranded, which is when the bakery was born.”
But what do customers think about the sweet treats at White Lace Bakery? Why did they think the business should win our latest Best of 2023 award?
One nomination said: “It’s all freshly made with their own recipes.
“These are the best sweet treats I’ve ever come across!”
The bakes at White Lace Bakery are rotated so no two weeks are the same and there’s always something new for customers to try.
The old school sponge cake is a popular choice with the bakery selling hundreds of slices each week.
The mix and match treat boxes allow visitors to pick their own goodies, which make them perfect for family sharing or a birthday treat.
Lindsay said: “There are so many amazing local bakers and businesses in Warrington.
“Like them, we are dedicated and a little mad about what we do!
“We are always coming up with new ideas and new trends, offering freshly baked goodies that often sell out as quickly as we make them.
“We strive to offer friendly and engaging customer service - our little pink shops are warm and inviting.
“Customers often come and take pictures before they order their treats!”
So how did everyone at the family-run business feel when they heard they’d made the shortlist for Warrington’s Best for Dessert 2023?
Lindsay said: “We were honestly blown away and very excited and were delighted to hear that we’d won for a second year running.
“We are thrilled to have so much support from the community, our customers and readers of the Warrington Guardian.
“We will be running a giveaway to celebrate winning the latest award as a special thank you to everyone.”
