GREGGS in the Golden Square Shopping Centre has announced that it will close its doors tomorrow, Saturday.
The closure will last for three weeks, and will run until Friday, August 4.
Announcing the temporary closure on social media, Golden Square said: "Listen. We're not happy about this either, but we thought you guys needed to be told: Greggs is closing.
"NOT LIKE THAT.
"They're having a refurb - so they'll be closed from tomorrow until August 4, looking all shiny and new, ready for the start of the Summer Fair in the Square!"
The shopping centre playfully added: "Scared you for a second though, didn't we?"
This will not be welcome news for fans of the popular bakery, which has experienced somewhat of a cult resurgence in recent years.
Greggs was recently making headlines after announcing that its flagship Leicester Square store will be serving baked goods well into the night.
A High Court decision saw the news break that Greggs would officially be able to remain open on Leicester Square until 2am Thursday-Saturday - this came after an application was refused in summer 2022 for the store to be allowed to serve until 5am.
Though visitors to the Golden Square should not expect to see the refurbished Greggs site serving until the early hours of the morning, shoppers will not have long to wait to see what is in store for the beloved town centre bakery.
