A WARRINGTON GP who is one of three generations from the same family to work in medicine says visiting Downing Street was a 'proud moment'.
Dr Rashmi Jain, from Stretton Medical Centre, was invited to the NHS champions reception in London to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS she says she is 'so proud' to be a part of.
Her father is a retired professor in medicine in India while her daughter is a junior doctor in London and son a medical student in Newcastle.
Her visit to London saw her meet health secretary Steve Barclay and Conservative MP for Warrington South Andy Carter.
Dr Jain, who has worked for the NHS for 27 years, has more than 9,000 patients registered at her practice and said it was an incredible day she can look back on with pride.
"We have always been so grateful that the NHS is there and is there free at the point of access," she said.
"I have got so many friends and relatives who live around the world who marvel at the NHS.
"I have always felt so proud to work for it."
And she paid tribute to the staff at Stretton and their dedication.
"During Covid, none of them wanted to work at home, they came in," she said.
"They were talking to patients through the window. They never questioned it."
As well as her work at Stretton, she is piloting a scheme on early diagnoses of cancer as well as working with the asylum seekers in the Fir Grove Hotel.
"Not everyone get to go inside 10 Downing Street so it felt like a proud moment," she said.
"Not just for me but my family and the staff at Stretton. I was thrilled to be there and it was amazing to get that opportunity."
