MONEY is being fundraised to allow the family of a missing boy found dead in Warrington to give him a fitting send-off.

Last week, an urgent appeal for information was launched by both Cheshire Police and Greater Manchester Police in relation to the whereabouts of Eric Lin.

The 14-year-old was last seen in the Bell Crescent area of Manchester at around 7.45pm on Sunday, July 2.

Officers in Cheshire had been undertaking extensive searches across south Warrington in a bid to locate him.

But sadly, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a body was found on Thursday afternoon at Moore Nature Reserve.

Officers recovered a body from Manchester Ship Canal after the force received a report of a possible sighting from a member of the public passing on a train.

GMP confirmed that there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

DCI Gareth Davies said: “Our thoughts remain with Eric’s loved ones at this difficult time.”

Since Thursday, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support Eric’s family through this difficult time, and it has already exceeded its target of £3,000 thanks to donations from more than 190 people.

A tribute on the fundraising page reads: “Eric was a smart, funny, talented and loving boy who had a big heart and a cheeky smile.

“He had a very bright future ahead of him, but sadly his life was taken far too early.

“He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, who at this sad time are struggling to comprehend this sad end to a beautiful young life.

“This page has been set up to help the family give him the send-off he deserves, and to hopefully alleviate the financial strain of losing a loved one.

“Any help, no matter how big or small, would be appreciated by a wonderful, loving family who are going through the hardest time of their lives.”

One donator said: “I donated because Eric was the most amazing person, and I would hate to not give back to his family after he gave me years of happiness.

“I would not be where I am with basketball if it was not for him. RIP Eric, you will be in our hearts forever.”

Another wrote: “Eric was a beautiful boy. May his smile shine on in heaven and may his soul find peace. Sending love to the family at this heartbreaking time.”
