WARRINGTON is one of a handful of areas to see its population fall.
New experimental data released by the Office for National Statistics, which is the government department responsible for conducting the official census, revealed that Warrington has seen a recent decrease in population.
The data has been taken from figures between mid-2021 and mid-2022.
Though only experiencing a small drop, it is interesting to note that Warrington was one of just 15 local authorities that experienced a fall in population across England and Wales.
Falling by 0.06 per cent, the population of Warrington fell from 211,163 in mid-2021 to 211,027 in mid-2022.
This is still an increase on the population of Warrington from when the census was conducted, which reported that there were 210,900 residents in the town.
Other local authorities to experience a decreasing population size include:
- Scarborough,
- Hastings,
- Conwy,
- Ipswich,
- Lincoln,
- Great Yarmouth
The area with the largest decrease in population, as per the ONS, was South Staffordshire, with a decrease of 0.89 per cent.
At the top end of the scale was Tower Hamlets, which experienced a boom in population of almost five per cent.
Westminster, Camden, Manchester, Salford, and Liverpool all also saw a rising population count between mid-2021 and mid-2022.
