THE inquest into the death of teenager Brianna Ghey has been suspended.
The 16-year-old schoolgirl, from Birchwood, was found on a path at Culcheth Linear Park with multiple stab wounds on Saturday, February 11.
The transgender teenager was found ‘unresponsive’ by members of the public in the park, and paramedics attended and confirmed the date of death.
Two suspects, a 16-year-old girl from Warrington and a 15-year-old boy from Leigh, were arrested in connection with the incident.
The pair, who cannot be named or identified for legal reasons, were later charged with her murder.
The pair are set to stand trial at Manchester Crown Court, starting on Monday, November 27.
The trial is expected to last three weeks.
Senior coroner for Cheshire, Jacqueline Devonish, opened the inquest into Brianna’s death on Wednesday, March 8, at Warrington Coroner’s Court.
Here, she set a date for a pre-inquest review hearing, with this to take place on Thursday, August 17.
A further hearing was held last week when Ms Devonish suspended the date for a future full inquest pending the outcome of criminal proceedings.
All are reminded not to speculate or report any matters which could prejudice legal proceedings related to the case.
