WHAT'S better than winning a Best of 2023 award? How about winning two!
Hot on the heels of scooping our Best for Fitness title earlier this month, Danny Warburton has bagged himself a second honour - Warrington's Best for Tattoos.
Each week, we will be searching for the best Warrington has to offer in different categories.
Ashleigh Hair and Beauty took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair - and Tomlins is officially Best for Pies with Bamboo Hair and Beauty being crowned Best for Nails.
Heaths 26 is Best for Roast Dinner, Dead Eyes was announced as Best for Cocktails and Café Blu in Whitecross is Best for Breakfast.
Last week’s Fish Net was named Best for Fish and Chips and Daniel Warburton won his first award Best for Fitness with RM Boxing and Fitness.
Voting for Warrington’s Best for Pizzas is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Pets – a new category for this year.
Next up was tattoos and Danny’s Tattoo on Palatine Estate, Causeway Avenue, beat off competition from 11 other tattooists and tattoo studios taking our latest Best of 2023 title.
Danny started tattooing 14 years after a seemingly endless search for an apprenticeship finally produced a job offer.
The 40-year-old opened his own business - Danny's Tattoo - after working in Padgate, Great Sankey, Latchford and a stint in Bolton.
He was in the town centre for three years before moving to his current location on Palatine Estate, Causeway Avenue.
Danny said: “I tried endlessly to get into the tattoo industry asking for apprenticeships by taking my artwork into local tattoo studios, none of which had any openings.
“It's extremely difficult to get into the industry unless you know someone and back then I think there were about four studios in Warrington - now there are probably around 30.
“Fortunately for me, after about 12 months, I had a phone call from a tattooist saying his brother was opening a shop.
“I dropped everything and went for a trial.
“Fast forward 14 years and here I am on Causeway Avenue.
“I wanted to open a boxing club with the ambition of helping people and both businesses are in the same building.
“I tattoo between 10am and 4pm, clean up and then coach boxing between 5pm and 9pm.”
With no passing trade at the current location, Danny is reliant on the customer base he's built up and social media.
Making the shortlist of Best for Tattoos is no mean feat, with Danny up against one of his best friends Joe at Black Bones and one of his own apprentices Adam at 11:11 Tattoo Studio.
Danny said: “Being nominated again after winning Best for Fitness was an honour as I was in such good company.
“I provide a service not just a tattoo and people who visit the shop aren't just customers, they become friends.”
He added: “I’m not trying to be the best in the town, just the best I can be.
“I have the best clients, friends and family.”
What do Danny’s clients think? Why did they want him to win the latest Best of 2023 title?
One nomination said: “He is the best black and grey tattooist by far.”
Another said: “He is that good that I still travel back to see him even though I have moved to Liverpool!”
Danny does a wide variety of tattoos but if he had to pick a favourite style it would be black and grey realism, especially portraits and wildlife.
He's fascinated by art and while he still paints when he can, Danny's main priority is tattooing.
Danny said: “I think what sets my two businesses apart from others is the connection I have with people.
“I like making people happy and I like to go out of my way for others.
“Seeing people smile makes me smile.”
Danny added: “I can’t thank everyone enough for voting for me - the support I get from my friends and family means the world to me.
“I’ve had some hard times recently and one thing my mother used to say was ‘you're capable of anything you put your mind to Daniel’.
“She passed away recently and I wish she could see that I've won these two awards - she would be so proud of me.”
