RESIDENTS are being reminded to keep their cars locked overnight.

It comes after a suspect was caught trying door handles in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Whitecross area.

One resident of Wellfield Street captured the suspicious man on his doorbell camera walking down the street trying each car door shortly after midnight.

The resident said: “I would like to share this doorbell video of some person trying car doors on Wellfield Street, near the hospital.

“I would just like to remind residents to be vigilant and lock their car doors.”

Cheshire Police is also warning residents of the risk that comes with forgetting to lock vehicles or leaving valuables on show by highlighting the 9pm routine.

It previously said: “Please ensure your vehicles are secure and all valuables are not on display or removed from the vehicle.

“Do not forget the 9pm routine – set an alarm for 9pm as a reminder that when it goes off, you go around your property and check all windows are locked and secure.

“Check all doors are locked and secure, all outbuildings or sheds are locked and secure, and finally your vehicles are locked and secured, and the keys are hung up away from the front door.”
