THE memory of a ‘beautiful’ and ‘bubbly’ young care worker will remain forever within the team at a care home in Grappenhall.

Members of the team at The Old Rectory Nursing Home organised a fundraising sunrise walk up Snowdon in honour of 30-year-old Kasia McAlinden who sadly took her own life back in January this year.

A group of 16 care workers who had worked with Kasia throughout her eight years at the home decided to organise the sun rise trek up Wales tallest mountain, to raise money for suicide prevention charity, Papyrus, and have so far raised more than £3,000.

Care home administrator, Charlie Phillips said: “We set off at 2.15am up the mountain. It rained the whole time from setting off to coming back, it was torrential, but it was a big sense of achievement when we reached the top.

“It was cold and wet, but 100 per cent worth it, given the money we have raised and recognition we have achieved across the local community in memory of Kasia and in awareness of Papyrus.”

The team reached the summit together and were back at the communal bus by 9am.

Paying tribute to their ‘caring’ colleague, the team at The Old Rectory said: “Kasia was not only a work colleague but a close friend to many.

“Her qualities as a senior carer have always been admirable, showing compassion and empathy to those she cared for, and she always had time for those who needed help and guidance.

“She brightened the lives of numerous residents over the years with her kind and considerable nature.”

Manager of the nursing home, located on Church lane, Zoe Mellor added: “She was bubbly, caring and always had a smile on her face.”

A separate page was set up in memory of Kasia to raise further funds for Papyrus charity, who work to prevent suicide in young people, and the page attracted many touching tributes.

Colleague to Kasia, Charlie added: “She loved being a carer. It feels like a massive missing piece, after so many years of her working here. We keep expecting her to just walk through the door.”
