A NINE-year-old boy from Stretton will complete a charity walk from Lymm to Manchester in remembrance of his young brother who tragically died suddenly.
Appleton Thorn pupil, Sebastian Jones, was heart-broken after his 12-year-old brother Josh contracted sepsis last May and died shortly after.
Josh spent the last days of his life being cared for by Claire House Children’s Hospice and now Sebastian is hoping to raise thousands for the charity as a thank you for their help and support.
Speaking on the continuous support the charity has shown to the family, Sebastian’s mum, Kate, said: “They have been absolutely amazing for us as a family and Seb.
“Seb has joined a sibling group they run and spends time with other people who have lost siblings.
“They have various bereaved parents’ groups and they are there for as long as we need them.”
Cricket enthusiast, Sebastian will be joined by his family and the support of his local cricket team as he makes the trek from Bridgewater Canal in the centre of Lymm to Emirates Old Trafford Cricket ground on Father’s Day, June 18.
They hope to arrive in time to watch his beloved team Lancashire Lightning play against Durham.
Kate said how her youngest son has ‘fallen in love’ with cricket since losing Josh.
She added: “We took him to a couple of cricket matches when Josh passed away. Cricket has been his happy place. Me and his dad are so incredibly proud of how he has dealt with the loss of his brother.”
Kate explained how the charity rely heavily on public donations with little support from the council in running the organisation, which costs up to £9,000 a day to run.
The fundraiser ultimately is a way for the family to thank the hospice for their support, having given Josh respite care throughout his life.
“Josh couldn’t speak but he had a huge smile on his face whenever Seb was with him. They were really close, and Josh would be really proud of him.”
