THE communities of Culcheth and Croft have pulled together in remarkable fashion to support a community kitchen.
Over the bank holiday weekend, Culcheth's Sunflower Community Kitchen had its till robbed by a man pretending to enquire about volunteering opportunities.
The community kitchen can be found within the Daten Sports Club, off Charnock Road, and is used as a space for Warrington's Ukrainian Family Hub.
It is run by a mixture of volunteers and staff at the Daten, and is used by the Ukrainian Family Hub several times a week.
Last week, the kitchen shared the heartbreaking news that a man had robbed the kitchen's till when the volunteers and staff were hard at work.
In the days following the robbery, a pub in Croft organised a charity cake and coffee morning to raise funds to replace those that were stolen.
On Friday, June 2, the General Elliot pub in Croft held the fundraiser in a show of community spirit, beginning at 9am.
In a heartwarming post on social media, the community kitchen confirmed that the fundraiser was not only successful, but it raised more than £300.
The Sunflower Community Kitchen said: "We brought you the awful news that we were robbed last week.
"[Now] we are bringing you the incredible news that the fundraiser put on by the General Elliot has raised over £300.
"This, along with White Lace Bakery generously offering us trays of cakes, has yet again restored our faith in our community."
The General Elliot said: "A massive thank you to all our GE guests who came to support our fundraising cuppa & cake morning in aid of the Sunflower Community Kitchen
"Team GE is proud to announce we raised a grand total of £305 - we couldn’t have done it without your support.
"We look forward to our next fundraising event."
The Sunflower Community Kitchen can be found in the Daten Sports Club, off Charnock Road, Culcheth.
