EXCELLENT news for Penketh as the community's public swimming pool has fully reopened after a turbulent time.
The pool initially closed in 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and numerous works were required in order to make the pool usable once more.
Renovation and refurbishment works took place on the pool, which began in March 2022, after a number of issues were identified.
Issues included cracks in the pool walls, as well as problems with the pool's filtration systems.
Now, however, the refurbishment has gone - fittingly - swimmingly, and the pool has reopened for public swimming.
It had been open for swimming lessons, though had not yet fully reopened for public swimming sessions.
Found off William Penn Close, Penketh Pool and Community Centre reopened for public swimming officially on Saturday, May 27.
Having trained up six new lifeguards - Zack, Michelle, Adam, Jake, Harry and Alex - the pool is once again getting into the swing of things, and just in time for summer, too.
Posting a notice on social media, Penketh Parish Council said: "It was a special moment this morning welcoming our first public swimmer back.
"We also have a new noticeboard at the front of the pool, containing our newsletter which is out for delivery now.
"We'll add any news on further swim sessions as we form our timetable and work towards the proposed timetable published last year."
Looking ahead, the parish council says it will be releasing monthly passes which will allow swimmers to pay upfront for the cost of attending sessions, and it will be at a slightly discounted rate.
Swimming lessons are available on a Monday and Tuesday, with the council adding: "If you've been missed, have a question or want more information please email leisure@penkethparishcouncil.org.uk to be added to the waitlist.
"Prices for lessons are £42 pm and with preschool and stages one to seven between 3.30-6pm depending on ability and placement."
