A GROWING concern is being raised about the increase in children and young adults becoming addicted to vaping in the UK – with the government announcing an official crackdown on the rising crisis.

In light of this, a ‘first of its kind’ event will take place at the Pyramid in Warrington to help educate parents on the dangers of vaping in young people.

LiveWire's dedicated Stop Smoking Team is running a 'Parental Vape Education Session' on Thursday, June 15, from 6pm to 7pm.

The ‘groundbreaking’ event aims to provide parents with vital information and education regarding the prevalence of vaping in schools and the potential dangers it poses to children.

It will also shed light on the lack of long-term research on the health impacts of vaping, particularly on children whose bodies are still developing, plus the dangers of illicit vaping products that are being made available to teenagers.

According to recent statistics, in 2022, 15.8 per cent of 11 to 17-year-olds had tried vaping, compared to 11.2 per cent in 2021.

Meanwhile, seven per cent of 11 to 17-year-olds were current users of vapes in 2022, as opposed to 3.3 per cent in 2021.

One main alarming point that will be highlighted within the session will be the serious impacts that exposure to addictive substances can have on people of such a young age and how this can ‘significantly increase the likelihood of addiction in adulthood’.

The session will offer crucial insights into the risks associated with vaping and equip parents with the knowledge and tools to safeguard their child's health and well-being.

Tom Kearney, leader of the Stop Smoking team at LiveWire spoke of his excitement for the upcoming event.

"We are excited to bring this unique educational event to the community," he said.

"The aim is to empower parents with accurate information about vaping, as well as highlight the importance of open conversations with their children. By raising awareness, we can work together to protect the next generation from potential harm."
