YOUNG Padgate pupils slipped on their running shoes to take part in their very own Race for Life and managed to raise thousands for Cancer Research UK.
Brook Acre Primary School, on Hilden Road, held the event on May 17, with 230 pupils, teachers and teaching assistants taking part in the race which ran a route around the school grounds.
Running, jogging and walking, each participant had a smile on their face as they raised more than £3,000 for the life-saving cause.
One pupil managed to complete an impressive 27 laps, running over 10k.
The event was held as part of the school’s health week, where pupils were educated through workshops on healthy living and eating and school council selected Cancer Research UK as their chosen charity for the year to fundraise for.
A wall of posters had heart-felt hand written notes from the pupils taking part, remembering family members and people close to them whose lives have been taken by cancer.
A spokesperson from Brook Acre said: “We had a wonderful day with everybody participating, encouraging the children to be part of their community and caring for others.
“We are overwhelmed by the amazing response from parents and carers in raising over £3000. This will help Cancer Research UK to prevent, diagnose and treat Cancer and improve survival rates even further.”
